Material Balance Analysis

Material balance is a useful reservoir engineering technique that can be used to estimate the Original hydocarbons in-place. A material balance of a pool's history also provides an understanding of a reservoir drive mechanism and the influence of any connecting aquifer.

CalScan engineers use a powerful program to perform material balance studies. Using a very comprehensive set of models, it calculates original oil-in-place (OOIP) and original gas-in-place (OGIP) for reservoirs with or without water influx using black oil or compositional fluids. All the important factors such as reservoir geology, fluid properties and the well production, pressure and completion histories are duly integrated to obtain reliable results.

Our Material Balance analysis report includes;

  • Diagnostic plots regarding reservoir performance and conditions, including; F/(Eo+Efw) versus Total Oil Production, F/(Eo+Efw) versus Delta P(Pi-Pt) and Campbell plot (F/Ef versus F).
  • Plots to assist in analyzing the MBE results, including; Havlena and Odeh plots, calculated OOIP versus time, and calculated versus actual pressure profiles.
  • Discussion and conclusions.
